A proposal can be one of the most special moments in a couple’s relationships. It’s the beginning of a new era for a couple, and it’s no surprise that many would choose to begin that era someplace special. If you and that special someone both love escape rooms and puzzles, there’s something to be said for proposing in an escape room. It can provide you with a bit of privacy, some clever puzzles, and a great memory for the future. If you’re going to do it, you’ll want to make sure you take a few steps to do it right.
While an escape room can seem rather private, you do need to remember that this is a fairly public proposal. As such, you’ll want to make sure that you are fairly confident of the answer before you are locked in with the other party! If you’re not sure, make sure you’re willing to end the escape early if things go wrong.
Clue in the Staff
Tell the staff about your plans ahead of time. They may be able to help you avoid rooms with other parties or allow you to set up a special clue on your own. It’s a good idea to give the staff a heads-up if you’re planning on doing anything that would generally be considered confusing in the game.
Set the Mood
Make sure you separate your need to be competitive from your need to propose! Try to find a room that’s a little easier than one you’d normally use. You don’t want your proposal to be caught up in the emotions that are stirred up by a difficult escape.
Have an Exit Plan
If you absolutely must make solving a clue part of the proposal, make sure you have an exit plan. Set up a signal with the staff to help you move on to that puzzle if possible, or to skip that puzzle entirely if there is a change of plans.
Proposing in an escape room will only go smoothly if you plan it out. Call ahead before you make any arrangements on your own – the team at Escape Canada can help make your escape room proposal one to remember!
